I was in missionary work in Indonesia when three miracles occurred in one day. At the request of a Brother in the Lord, I was holding meetings in the country. After the meetings were over, I wanted to go home to the city.
I flagged down a taxi. As I got in, I realized there were already six other people crammed in it. Now there were seven. Four of us sat in the back, and three of us sat in the front. It was an old decrepit taxi. I noticed the driver had to turn the steering wheel a long way to get the taxi to change course. The steering was worn. I thought, "With three of us in front, this is going to be a heroic ride."
We had not gone far when I heard an explosion. A tire blew out. Because of the loose steering, the driver had to do some fancy maneuvers to keep the taxi right side up. Finally he was able to get the taxi under control and bring it to a stop. We all piled out as fast as we could.
That was the most frightening twenty miles I have ever ridden in any car. I was happy to be alive. I thought, "Boy am I glad the excitement is over."
But it wasn't over. When the driver opened the trunk to pull out the spare tire, a bunch of crabs crawled out of our luggage. It turned out that he sold live crabs to local restaurants to make money on the side. Eventually the driver was able to put the spare tire on the wheel, and we all piled back into the taxi. It was a miracle that no one was hurt.
I arrived home at dusk, looking forward to getting some sleep. But another situation was in the making. A man was waiting for me. He asked, "Will you go with me to pray for a women in distress?" I agreed. So my interpreter and I followed him.
We walked about two miles in the dark. Along the way, dogs charged at us and snarled at our heels. I was too tired to run.
At last, we arrived at our destination, a Chinese house made of cement blocks, with no glass in the windows. As we entered, I saw a Chinese woman sitting against the wall. A blanket was draped over her, as if to keep her warm. I thought, "This is strange. It's hot in this country. The temperature is almost 100 degrees. Why does she need a blanket?"
Her Chinese husband asked, "Will you pray for her? She has been to the doctor and to the hospital, but they sent her home. They said they could not find anything physically wrong with her."
My interpreter was filled with the Holy Spirit. He sensed something was wrong. He asked the man, "Have you people been practicing black magic?" When the man said, "yes," I knew that he and his wife were involved in worshipping demonic spirits.
The interpreter said, "We will not pray for your wife unless both of you renounce black magic. You must destroy all fetishes and symbols of worship; put them in the middle of the floor, to be burned."
The Chinese man began to gather the items. He brought out old bones, sticks, and rags. He dug them out from between mattresses and from behind picture frames. I watched as he removed a symbol that was above his bedroom door. This symbol was supposed to keep the devil away. It didn't work - his wife was afflicted by a demon.
The interpreter heaped the demonic tokens in a pile. Then he asked the man, "Do you have any kerosene?" He figured they must, because they use it in their lamps. They have no electricity. The man brought him some kerosene. The interpreter poured it on the objects and set them on fire. He smiled as he struck the match.
As the flames soared, I went over to the woman. In the name of Jesus, I cast out the devil that was causing her to be so cold. She became normal. When she threw off the blanket, we all rejoiced. She received deliverance. That was miracle number two on this incredible day. But this day wasn't over yet. God had more He wanted to do through us.
There was another Chinese man observing us. He saw the miraculous deliverance that took place and said, "I have a daughter that is deaf and dumb. On your way back home, would you please stop by my house and pray for her?" So we did. Immediately she was set free. She could hear, and she began to speak. That was miracle number three.
It was midnight when we finally got home. We were exhausted, but rejoiced anyway. God spared our lives that day, and He brought deliverance to those in need. It was a busy day's work.
The next night, a large crowd came to our meeting. News had spread about the miracles, and folks came out to see what God was going to do next.
